BONUS SONNET: Eyepatch Brigadier: In Which I Declare My Undying Love

A journey to an alternate world can
Be quite disorienting, even queer
(In that old-fashioned sense). That such a man
Exists as the great Eyepatch-Brigadier
(In Doctor Who: Inferno) leaves me stunned.
The Goatee-Spock, the Wicked Walternate
Have naught on him; he's got them all outgunned
With just a one-eyed glare. And what did cut
That fearsome Omar Little scar across
His face, and left him so bowel-chilling cold?
As mirror world chaps go, he is the boss.
Not even fair Fauxlivia could hold
A candle to him; he would blow it out
And strike her dead with just a single shout.

In Which I Join The Chorus Singing "Crown The Shat"

I'm often proud of our friends to the north,
But I don't think a single thing could make
Me prouder than if they do sally forth,
Pull William Shatner home, and let him take
Viceregal honors. Of course, well I know
It's mostly up to him; there'd be acclaim
From most Canadians, but would he go
For it himself? All glory to his name,
But could he leave the acting world behind,
Become an emmisary of the Queen
(Though this might be the role of a lifetime!)
And cease all jokes on being a has-been?
Still it's a lovely thought I'll cherish well,
E'en if he bids his countrymen to hell.

In Which I Squee For Star Trek Online

A tiny box of squee arrived today,
Star Trek Online, a time sink nonpareil
I'm sure, or will be when I get to play
(Th'initial patch is taking quite a while;
Release day and the fanboys and fangirls
Are signing on in droves to make their start).
Oh, my delight when the first screen unfurls,
You'll surely hear from far away. My heart
Is full. An MMORPG's not
A thing I've ever played; this is the first
I've wanted to. It's Star Trek, though! That's hot!
And even if as games go it's the worst
E'en so shall I play till I hurt my wrist
Unto the point I cannot make a fist.

The Parent Trek

It's no surprise that Mom wanted to see
The Star Trek flick, but what to do with Dad?
We thought that Earth would do, but wow! Then he
Said no he'd go to Trek with us. He's had
Experience with outer space movies:
He took us to see Star Wars after all
(Ne'er mind that that was in the 70s!).
And so we went, all three, and had a ball.
"A good light show," was Dad's review, while Mom,
Quipped "they sure hid that well" 'bout Mr. Spock
And (spoiler zapped; we'll just defuse that bomb).
While I am still recov'ring from the shock:
Shizuma Drives and Ultranauts, last time
I checked were not canon, but that's no crime.

Happy Mother's Day - Geek Love Edition, OR Why I Haven't Seen Star Trek Yet

She taught me how to use objective case,
And what a linotype machine was for.
She handled with most admirable grace
When betimes, as she vacuumed the floor
A shotgun shell blew up in the machine.
Likewise when village small fry mistook her
For Grandmother ( her grey hair, from a gene
She shared with me, came early, as it were).
She taught me young to love the ancient Greeks
And stars and sci-fi, gin and Chinese food.
No wonder I count us among the geeks.
All this while married to a cop. But, dude!
E'en so I must love this gal quite a lot.
I'm waiting to see Trek with her, distraught!
