In Which I Suffer To Be Feminine

I feel quite silly talking about this,
Most barbarous thing I did with my day,
But I'm a girl, and I would be remiss
If regularly I did not, some way
Submit myself to standardizing pain.
My eyebrows are a trial to govern. I
Am chicken with the tweezers, but I fain
Will let another get close to my eye
With hot wax, just for pretty's sake. I trust
Just two folk with this task. They both are kind
Though I will not say gentle, for they must
Needs rip those eyebrows all asunder, find
The roots of those hairs, ruthless, pull them out
And promise not to tease me if I shout.

In Which I Ponder A Happy Chain Reaction

It got its start when Kevin bought a house.
He is a bit carefree, I will just say.
My sister heard the news, began to grouse,
And came to the conclusion that she may
As well do so; if he could so could she.
She shopped around, and chose, and moved right in.
The dial took a spin and stopped on me.
I took the step, though not without chagrin.
I'm glad I did, and anyone who cares
May hear this tale, as did a pal of mine.
She caught the bug and now she boldly fares
Into the market, husband at her side.
Did Kevin start a cycle, or a tide?

In Defense of Social Networking Sites

I know some people love to brag about
Deleting a Facebook or MySpace page.
And print and broadcast pundits boasting clout
Just love to act bewildered that the age
Of Twitter has arisen. We're all dupes
Or followers of some pied piper's song,
Fashion victims, or just simply snoops.
The fact that we're ungodly numbers strong
Newsweek et al point snidely to as proof
Of herd mentality, or just no life.
I say let's let the snide remain aloof.
These media are lovely, ripe and rife
With opportunities unguessed to find
New friends, old loves, life weirdly redefined.
