Sonnet Dare: In Which I Contemplate Pieces of Kate

I lost my temper at one point today.
Some news tore out my heart from in my chest.
My liver is on strike to make me pay
For the Greek beer I drank last night. It's best
That we don't even mention these, my knees
Rebelling, too, from biking on a flat
(My eyes refused, e'en though I did say "please"
To see in all that dark where we were at
Enough to pump it back to fullness) ache
Somewhat. I fear they might come off if I
Don't keep an eye on them. I'd hate to make
The error of misplacing them. I'm spry
But without them I'm hopelessly in place,
And someone's sure to ask "why the long face?"

In Which I May Lose My Mind But Gain A Nickname

Just now occurred one of the stranger things
That Twitter's brought my way in recent days.
The current meme is of the kind that brings
The punsters out in quite ferocious ways.
It's #notsosuperheroes that they name,
John Gregson thought of the Pun Issuer.
And, Milton Mermikides in the game,
Of course I thought that name must sure refer
To him. Then John said if that be the case,
Then Irony Man is his nom de guerre.
Agreeing, I then fell flat on my face
With one for me, but Milt with savoir faire
Dubbed me anew, and how? You'll never guess!
Behold the Iambic Pentamistress!

All In A Day's Tweet

Creationists unfollow Mythbusters,
For dissing their museum; meanwhile in
Tehran police are beating protesters
Of likely voting fraud and, for the win,
It's Twitter that is whence the info comes.
Meanwhile a mensch and fellow sonneteer
Makes sure Bagua is not forgotten. Drums
Beat for New Zealand's coming loss, I fear,
To mighty Spain in football, and I'm now
A co-producer on an indie flick
Whose maker's raising funds on Twitter: Wow!
In England, and I'll call this no mean trick,
A tweep is hearing Zappa music live.
All this and more, is what makes Twitter thrive.

BONUS SONNET: In Which I Wish Milton Mermikides Many Happy Returns Of The Day

O had I only known back in the day
When I dwelt near the Attitude Gauntlet
Of Berklee College, that amongst the fray
Was such a guy as Milton! I regret
That I missed my chance back then for to meet
This person I admire now. Glad I am
At least that I can in this manner greet
Him on his birthday. But now, can I cram
Encomium enough in what I've left
Within this sonnet? Milton's music brings
Out patterns from what we would miss, bereft
Of his keen ear to notice them - such things
As bloodwork data, evolution, and
The brain's own rhythms -- such is his command.

In Which I Eschew Eurovision In Favor Of Something Much Geekier

Content with Milton Mermikides' tweets
(There's lots to be content with; that guy knows
Of what he types), and at work, which defeats
All thought of tuning in to catch all those
Weird wannabes do Eurovision, I
Don't try. At any rate, my work PC
Is soundless. Words can't tell of how much my
Heart breaks at this. Instead I chose to see
Day Two of the spacewalk repair work on
The Hubble ACS. That's soundless, too
But fascinating on its own. Forgone
Is the conclusion that I'd rather do
My long-range gawking at some men in space
Than at what seems a musical disgrace.
